Riding Lessons

Diamond H has a full service program, successfully taking horse, and rider (regardless of experience or age) from their first tentative step to achieving the ride of their dreams.
Our Youth and amateur Program has been quite successful.  Students from our operation have been consistent winners at the highest levels.

From the beginning rider wishing to learn to ride to the seasoned showperson, looking to polish their edge, out program has something to offer.

We take great pride in our lesson program.  Students in our program take a hands on approach to horsemanship.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to own a horse to take lessons?

No, you do not need to own your own horse to take lessons!   In fact, you could ride our lesson horses for years.  If you have your own horse, you are welcome to ride them during lessons.

Do you teach Western or English?

We teach many disciplines including Western, English, Hunter, Halter and Showmanship.

Do you have different sessions for beginner or advanced riders?

Yes, we strive to create a program that works for each rider.  We ask that the rider begin with an introductory lesson in order for the instructors to better assess the rider's ability and knowledge.   Diamond H offers private, semi-private, and group lessons.  The instructor and rider will discuss which type of desired lesson is appropriate for your needs.

What are the age requirements?

We offer lessons to all age groups, with the youngest age being five.  These riders participate in the Jr Riders program, which is a lesson period of 30 minutes.  Exceptions for younger children may be made depending on the circumstances.  We have many riders whom are well into their "golden years" too.  "Horse fever"  can strike at any age and we can help!

How long and how much are the lessons?

Lessons last about an hour.  Prices may vary, but in general range between $25 and $40.  We do offer pay ahead lesson packages with discounted rates.

Will I learn how to take care of a horse?

Yes, you are required to learn how to take care of the horse before, during, and after the lesson period.  Riders are introduced the horse and what their responsibility is when they come and ride.  Under the supervision of the instructor, you are responsible for getting the horse groomed and tacked.  We will teach you from the ground up.

I love horses, but do not want to ride.  Do you offer extra activities involving being around horses?

We do offer activities that involve horses, without riding, including horse care and grooming, and in-handwork, including a successful halter showing program.  Depending on your goals, Diamond H can create a program just for you.

What should I wear to my lessons?

The attire at your lesson is important for both your safety comfort.  You should be prepared to wear a riding helmet, boots with a hard sole and heel; long or short sleeve shirt, and long pants that are not made of slippery material.  We do provide limited riding helmets, but should you continue to ride with Diamond H, you will want to buy a your own.

Is the riding arena indoors?

Yes we have an indoor facility for inclement weather!  We also have an outdoor arena and on site trails to enjoy the beautiful KY days.

Will I be able to show at horse shows?

Yes, Diamond H is both a lesson and training facility that provides instruction for the beginners all the way to advanced riders.  Many riders choose to compete with us.  We attend numerous shows throughout the show season and have a great time.  Our group is very supportive.  Come join the family!

My goal is to own my own horse.  Do you have horses for for sale?

Yes, we always have horses for sale.  If you want to build up to owning your own horse, we have different lease packages in order for you to test the horse out and give you some responsibility, but not all.  Several of the lesson horses have been lease for purposes of riders taking them to shows during a show season or simply for some extra riding time.  As you fall more into the category of officially becoming a horse owner, we also have a great selection of sale horses.  We can also help you find that perfect match and will guide you in the direction.
